Big innings, stellar pitching lead Titans to convincing victory over Boomers

Schaumburg, IL – Travelling through the night after a bitter defeat at home, the Ottawa Titans (39-26) opened up a six-game road trip with a 9-1 pounding of the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday night.

After a scoreless first, the Titans put two aboard with one out for Rodrigo Orozco’s RBI single to open the scoring. The top of the lineup laid a dent into Boomers starter Kyle Arjona (loss, 3-6), as Jackie Urbaez and Matt Feinstein plated two more to have the Titans in front 3-0.

Left-hander Tyler Jandron (win, 6-3) dazzled on the hill in the series opener, tossing seven and two-thirds for the victory. With over 40 family and friends in attendance, Jandron allowed just one base runner over the first three innings.

Blake Grant-Parks put the Boomers on the board with a two-out RBI single, scoring a Blake Berry double in the bottom of the fourth.

The Titans’ offence poured it on in the middle innings, using a Jake Sanford solo homer and Tyrus Green RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1 in the fifth. Sanford’s sixteenth homer of the season marked his 60th RBI of the season, good enough for second place in the league.

In the sixth, AJ Wright and Greene knocked in runs, while Brendon Dadson plated a pair with a two-run double in his return. Dadson was activated earlier in the day after being on the injured list since June 30, finishing 1-for-3.

Ahead 9-1, Jandron finished off his twelfth start of the season allowing just one run on six hits, striking out eight in the win. In three starts since coming off the IL, Jandron has tossed 19.2 innings, surrendering just three runs, and striking out 21.

The Ottawa Titans continue their series with the Schaumburg Boomers tomorrow night at 7:00 ET from Wintrust Field. Following the series finale on Sunday, the Titans travel to Tri-City to open a three-game set on Tuesday, before returning home for a nine-game homestand on August 5.
