Paterson, NJ - The Ottawa Titans (41-40) allowed a franchise-high eight homers in an 18-2 loss to the New Jersey Jackals (50-30) on Thursday, seeing them swept for the third time in 2023.

The Jackals hammered Chris Burica (loss, 6-3) and the Titans for four consecutive multi-run innings to open the series finale, seeing the home side jump out to an early lead.

Burica allowed a career-high 12 runs on 14 hits over just three and a third, suffering his first loss since June 27. Connor Kelly allowed four runs in relief while Kenny Williams surrendered a pair.

Jason Dicochea snapped 16 and a third of shutout baseball for the offence with a two-run double off Yuichi Shiota in the seventh inning, spoiling the shutout bid.

The main story for the Jackals was the long ball, as they knocked out eight homers to set a new single-season league record. James Nelson, Alfredo Marte, and Kevin Rolon all homered once, while Rusber Estrada left the yard twice, and Alex Toral sent three over the wall.

On offence for the Titans, Austin Davis, Jamey Smart, and Jason Dicochea all recorded multi-hit performances.

The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game road trip with the first of a three-game series against the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Stade Quillorama. The Titans will now play their final 15 games of the regular season north of the border. All the action can be heard on CKDJ 107.9 and 94,5 UNIK FM and live-streamed on Flo Baseball.
