Titans Re-Sign Larson, Gonzalez For 2023

January 12, 2023

Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced today the re-signings of left-handed pitcher Grant Larson and right-handed pitcher Nelson Gonzalez for the upcoming 2023 Frontier League season.

Larson, 25, returns to Ottawa for his third season of professional baseball in 2023. During the regular season, Larson went 6-5 with a 2.30 ERA in 35 appearances (two starts, 33 in relief) over 54.2 innings of work. He also tossed a clean inning in game two of the FLDS in Quebec, striking out a pair.

A native of San Diego, California, Larson pitched to a 2-5 record, with a 3.18 ERA in 45.1 innings in relief for the Great Falls Voyageurs in 2021.

In his college days, the 6-foot-7 lefty spent three seasons at Chico State University and one year at the University of Central Oklahoma. During a shortened 2020 season, Larson led all Wildcat pitchers in victories (4), strikeouts (31), and innings pitched (39).

Gonzalez, 32, returns to the fold following a strong finish to the 2022 campaign. Over 24 appearances (one start, 23 in relief), the veteran went 0-3 with a 4.02 ERA across 31.1 innings – walking six and striking out 28. The 6-foot-1 right-hander caught fire from August 1st onwards, pitching to a 0.93 ERA in nine outings.

Signed as an international free agent in 2007, Gonzalez would go on to spend 14 seasons in the Colorado Rockies organization, reaching Triple-A.

Hailing from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, Gonzalez set the Albuquerque Isotopes record with his 135th appearance in September of 2021, while winning the Isotopes’ Pitcher of the Year award in 2015.

In other news, the Titans have acquired RHP Alec Thomas and a first-round pick in the Frontier League Draft in exchange for OF Liam McArthur.

The Ottawa Titans open the 2023 season at home on Friday, May 12th against the Empire State Greys. For information on season tickets, group outings, and nine-game mini packs, visit the Titans’ official website at www.ottawatitans.com.
