Titans Bulk Up Starting Rotation with Signing of Jose Taveras

April 7, 2022

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced today that the team has signed right-handed pitcher Jose Taveras for the 2022 Frontier League season.

Taveras, 28, spent the 2021 season with the American Association’s Kansas City Monarchs, going 1-1 with a 5.20 ERA in eight appearances. The 6-foot-4-inch righty tossed 27.2 innings, striking out 19.

Signed out of his native Dominican Republic in 2013, Taveras reached triple-A in the Philadelphia Phillies organization between 2013-2019.

The 28-year-old has pitched to a 37-26 record with a 2.96 ERA in 105 career appearances at the minor league level. Born and raised in Santo Domingo, Tavares will enter his eighth season of professional baseball.

In 2014, Tavares was named the Dominican Summer League’s Pitcher of the Year, as he went 8-4 with a minuscule 1.05 ERA in 15 appearances. Tavares was also named to the Florida State League’s All-Star Game in 2017.

Along with the acquisition of Taveras, the Titans have also signed Japanese catcher Mitsuki Fukuda and Canadian RHP Dylan Jacober.

A native of Fukuoka, Japan, Fukuda joins the Titans after four seasons at Kyushu Sangyo University. Meanwhile, Jacober, who hails from Calgary, comes to Ottawa after pitching three seasons at Western University (London, Ontario), where he led the Mustangs to the 2019 OUA championship game.

Also, the Titans have acquired OF Kona Quiggle from the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League in exchange for C/RHP Devon Fisher. Quiggle was then moved to the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association in exchange for future considerations.

Further, the club has traded RHP Carter Hayes to the Gateway Grizzlies in exchange for INF Sicnarf Loopstok.

Additionally, the team has acquired RHP Ramsey Romano from the Sussex County Miners in exchange for future considerations.

The Ottawa Titans are scheduled to hit the field in late Spring of 2022 playing in the Frontier League, a partner league of Major League Baseball.
