Dicochea Returns For 2023 Season

March 28, 2023

Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced today the re-signing of utility player Jason Dicochea for the upcoming 2023 Frontier League season.

Dicochea, 25, returns to Ottawa following a dominant 2022 campaign. In 83 regular season games, Dicochea hit .308 with 21 doubles, three triples, six home runs, and 55 RBI. In four playoff games, the 6-foot utility player went 4-for-17 with a double and a run batted in. Dicochea ended the regular season on an 11-game hitting streak, going 15-for-40 over that stretch while driving in a team-high 11.

Hailing from Redondo Beach, California, Dicochea will hit the field for his third season of professional baseball in 2023. For the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League in 2021, Dicochea hit .334 with 10 homers and drove in 66 in 72 games. Acquired in a trade with Windy City last May, Dicochea saw playing time at catcher, in the infield, and in the outfield last season.

Prior to hitting the professional ranks, Dicochea played five seasons of college baseball at Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, California) from 2017-2021. The right-handed hitter slugged a combined .291 with eight home runs and 84 RBI in 185 games for the Broncos.

The club has also agreed to terms with Christian Zellner, a right-handed pitcher who recently tossed 33.1 innings for the Palm Springs Chill of the California Winter League. The Forest Lake, Minnesota native went 2-3 with a 3.78 ERA over six appearances – striking out 28.

In other news, the Titans have traded catcher Justin Mazzone to the New Jersey Jackals in exchange for future considerations.

Further, the team has traded LHP Patrick Ledet and OF Jake Gitter to the Lexington Counter Clocks of the Atlantic League for two players to be named later.

The Ottawa Titans open the 2023 season at home on Friday, May 12th against the Empire State Greys. For information on season tickets, group outings, and nine-game mini packs, visit the Titans’ official website at www.ottawatitans.com.
