Seasoned Arm Morel Signs 2026 Deal

Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced today that they have agreed to terms on a contract with right-handed pitcher Yohanse Morel for the upcoming 2026 Frontier League season.

Morel, 25, is the latest arm to join the fold and has six seasons of MiLB experience under his belt. The right-hander last appeared in the Texas Rangers organization during the 2024 season, finishing the campaign with the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars of the Atlantic League. That year, Morel tossed 17 times for the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League, logging 21.1 innings with three saves – striking out 23 opposing hitters. Morel then threw four times that year in independent baseball.

Hailing from Samana, Dominican Republic, Morel originally signed as an international free agent with the Washington Nationals in 2018. Spending just half a season in the Nationals system, Morel was traded to the Kansas City Royals that year as part of a package for two-time all-star Kelvin Herrera. He entered the 2020 season as the Royals’ 30th-ranked prospect, per MLB.com. After parts of three years in the Royals system, he was once again dealt in 2022 to the Texas Rangers.

Spending a total of six seasons in various organizations, Morel reached as high as Class-A Advanced between 2018 and 2024. Primarily a starter throughout his first handful of years in professional baseball, Morel has since transitioned to the bullpen.

In 143 career professional outings (23 starts, 120 in relief), Morel is a lifetime 14-17 with a 5.66 ERA over 267 innings – walking 139 and striking out 287 opposing hitters.

The Ottawa Titans will open the 2026 season on Friday, May 8, at 7:00 p.m., hosting the Québec Capitales at Ottawa Stadium.
