Titans Doubled Up by Capitales, Skid Hits Five

Québec City, QC - An early hole was too much to overcome as the Ottawa Titans (50-42) fell 6-3 to the Québec Capitales (67-27) on Friday night, seeing the losing streak hit five in a row.

The Titans' offence got off to a good start in the opening half-inning against Luke Krkovski (ND, 2-0), putting runners on the corners with one out. Coming off a strong debut weekend, the Titans had the right guy up, but Rainer Nuñez hit into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.

One pitch into the bottom of the first, Evan Grills (loss, 6-2) served up a leadoff solo homer off the bat of Chavez Young, who gave the Capitales an early 1-0 lead.

After not capitalizing with the first two on in the second, the Titans got down 4-0 in the third, as the Capitales brought in three runs on five hits. Ruben Castro brought home one, while David Mendham knocked in a pair with a two-run single.

In the fifth, the Titans showed some life, loading the bases with one out as Krkovski left the game. Rafael Perdomo (win, 4-0) inherited the bases juiced and committed a balk, allowing one to score. Myles Smith then made it a two-run game with a sacrifice fly.

The Capitales got the two runs back in the bottom half against Grills, as Emile Boies opened up the inning with a solo shot. Later, with the bases filled, a drop third strike kept the frame alive as a run scored to make it 6-2.

Taking his second straight defeat, Grills went five, allowing six runs on nine hits, walking two, hitting one, and striking out six.

In the ninth, Smith drove in his second of the night, working a great at-bat against Conner Floyd to score on a base hit.

Out of the bullpen, the Titans got much-needed scoreless appearances from Michael Vilchez and Liu Fuenmayor. Rookie Jack Kalisky tossed a scoreless inning to close out the night.

Myles Smith, Jake Steels, and Kaiden Cardoso all posted multi-hit efforts in the loss. AJ Wright singled and walked, extending his on-base streak to ten.

The five-game losing streak matches a season-high and is the first of its kind since late May/early June.

Despite the loss, the Titans got help on the out-of-town scoreboard, as Tri-City beat Down East. The magic number for the Titans to clinch a playoff spot has dropped to two. With a win tomorrow and a loss by Down East in either one of their two games, the Titans would officially clinch a spot in the 2026 Frontier League Playoffs.

The Ottawa Titans continue the road trip with the second of a three-game series against the Québec Capitales on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Stade Canac in Québec City, Québec. The Titans are home next week to face Trois-Rivières as part of Fan Appreciation Week before ending the season with four games in New Jersey.
