Y’alls come from behind in sixth to take series finale

Florence, KY – The Ottawa Titans (5-4) dropped the rubber match of their three-game series with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to the Florence Y’alls on Sunday afternoon.

For the third straight game, the Titans’ offence got on the board in the first inning as AJ Wright took Y’alls starter David Stiehl over the wall in left-centre for a two-run homer.

Wright ends the week going 11-for-26 (.423 average) with two doubles, two home runs, and eight RBI.

The Titans’ offence wasn’t done there as Brendon Dadson hit another two-run blast to make it 4-0 after a half-inning.

Zac Westcott (ND, 2-0) took to the hill for his third start of the season and allowed four runs over the first two innings as the Y’alls tied the score.

Craig Massey went 5-for-5 for the Y’alls, delivering a bases-clearing double in the second and added four singles, driving in a total of four runs in the ballgame.

The score stayed deadlocked at four until the top half of the sixth, when Mitsuki Fukuda singled through the left-side with two on, plating the go-ahead run. Fukuda finished the game going 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and an RBI.

On the next pitch, Will Zimmerman hit the Titans’ third home run of the game with a two-run blast.

The Y’alls stormed back by loading the bases in the bottom half of the sixth against Gavin Sonnier, who took over for Westcott as the Titans’ ace went five complete, allowing four runs on eight hits.

As Sonnier failed to record an out, Kyle Serrano was summoned into the jam and allowed all three to plate. After Serrano struck out a pair, the bases remained loaded when the Titans’ righty endorsed a wild pitch, plating the eventual winning run.

Canadian lefty Justin King, along with right-handers Evan Brabrand, and Joe Dougherty shut down the Titans’ offence over the last three innings to preserve the win for the home side.

After an off-day on Monday, the Ottawa Titans open the home portion of the 2022 season on Tuesday, against the Evansville Otters at Ottawa Stadium. First pitch for the inaugural home opener is at 6:30 p.m.
