AJ Wright Delivers Grand Slam Late, Titans Win Fourth Straight

Paterson, NJ - In a potential first-round playoff matchup, the Ottawa Titans (55-43) used three homers to power their way to a 7-4 come-from-behind victory over the New Jersey Jackals (55-44) on Friday night, earning a fourth consecutive win.
Leading off the game, Jackie Urbaez set a new career-best with his 11th homer of the year to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead. Urbaez surpassed his previous high of ten, which was set during the inaugural 2022 season.
Making his first start of the year, Taylor Wright (ND, 0-0) saw the Jackals leap in front by a run with a two-run bottom of the first. Felix Stevens and Gustavo Sosa each singled to bring home a pair of runs, putting the home side ahead 2-1.
In the fifth, Hunter Stokely opened the frame by sending the first pitch from Connor Maryniak (ND, 4-1) off the left-field foul pole for a game-tying solo homer. The tenth long ball of the year from the rookie set a franchise first, as four players have now registered ten or more homers.
Later in the frame, Jack Kalisky sent an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring Caleb Burr to put the Titans back ahead 3-2.
Dominic Puccetti (win, 6-5) navigated through his first three innings before the Jackals rallied with two away in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage. Noah Furcht and Isaac Bellony connected for RBI hits to put the Jackals up by one heading into the late innings.
The lefty bounced back for a solid outing, allowing two runs on three hits, walking a season-high tying five, while striking out three.
In the eighth, Jackie Urbaez and Thomas Ferroggiaro walked with one out against Andrew Peters (loss, 5-2) to put the tying run into scoring position. As the Jackals turned to all-star lefty Brendan O'Donnell, Austin Gurney reached on a dropped fly ball in centre to load the bags. On the very first pitch of the at-bat, AJ Wright crushed his 14th homer of the year for a go-ahead grand slam to put the Titans ahead for good at 7-4.
Michael Vilchez and Christian Scafidi (save, 2) combined to each leave multiple runners on in a clean inning of work to lock down the win.
AJ Wright's third career grand slam and his second of the year put the Titans on top for good, while Caleb Burr picked up a multi-hit effort. Jackie Urbaez ignited the offence with a solo homer and a pair of walks.
The Ottawa Titans continue the final weekend of the regular season with a doubleheader as part of a four-game series against the New Jersey Jackals on Saturday night starting at 5:30 p.m. at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, New Jersey. Both games are scheduled for seven innings. Next Wednesday, the Titans will host an opponent TBD in game one of the best-of-three Atlantic Conference Wild Card Playoffs at 7:00 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium.
