Bats Go Cold, Titans Lose Fourth Straight

Pomona, NY - For a second consecutive night, the offence posted four hits as the Ottawa Titans (50-41) fell 5-2 to the New York Boulders (49-43) on Wednesday night, dropping their fourth game in a row.

The Titans had their opportunities in the early stages of the game, stranding a total of four runners in scoring position over the first four innings of play, failing to push across a run.

Ky Hampton (loss, 2-5) was solid, allowing three runs over five innings of work. The Australian yielded six hits, walked two, and fanned two. Hampton has yet to record a win in a nine-inning game since his first start of the season on June 6 at Tri-City.

Jason Agresti opened the scoring in the third inning on an RBI groundout, John Schroeder brought in one with a single in the fourth, and a double from Matt Polk in the fifth posted all the insurance the Boulders needed for the victory.

Jake Steels made it as close as 2-1 with an RBI single to right off Anthony Leak (win, 3-4) in the fifth inning, plating Taylor Wright. The hit from Steels marked the final knock of the evening for the Titans' offence.

Michael Vilchez got into a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the sixth, as the Boulders put the middle game of the series out of reach with a pair of runs.

In the ninth, the Titans took advantage of a pair of hit-by-pitches and a passed ball to get a run back, as Thomas Ferroggiaro scored Jackie Urbaez with a groundout.

The Titans got scoreless appearances late in the contest from Jack Kalisky and Christian Scafidi.

Leak carried the Boulders to the victory with five solid innings of relief, striking out four. Scott Harper fanned two in a clean inning, while Kristian Scott allowed a run, hitting two, to close it out.

After getting out to a blazing start in August, the Titans' record this month has dropped to 11-11.

Despite the loss, the Titans did not get help on the out-of-town scoreboard, as Down East beat Tri-City. The magic number for the Titans to clinch a playoff spot remains at four.

The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game road trip with the finale of a three-game series against the New York Boulders on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Clover Stadium in Pomona, New York.
