Titans Lose Lead Late, Drop Third Straight

Pomona, NY - Opening their final six-game road trip of the season, the Ottawa Titans (50-40) conceded an early advantage in a 4-3 loss to the New York Boulders (48-43) on Tuesday night, dropping their third game in a row.

With the bases juiced and two outs in the fourth, a fly ball off the bat of Michael Fuhrman got lost in the lights by centre fielder Julian Boyd, leading to three coming across. Fuhrman's double put the Titans ahead 3-0.

Yohanse Morel (ND, 3-2) opened for the third time in less than a week and looked sharp again. The recently turned 26-year-old gave the Titans three shutout frames, allowing no hits, walking two, hitting one, and striking out two.

Dominic Puccetti looked solid through his first two innings of relief, until the Boulders put the first two on in the sixth. Santino Rosso smashed a hanging breaking ball on 0-2 for a three-run homer to tie the score at three.

The offence went quietly after Boulders starter Riley Cooper (ND, 0-2) exited in line for the loss after five. The Boulders' starter allowed three runs on four hits, walked six, and struck out six.

Scott Harper, Ethan Bradford (win, 6-2), and Jalon Long (save, 5) slammed the door with a combined four scoreless, hitless innings. The only base runners the Titans had were a pair of hit-by-pitches.

Ted Stuka threw two clean innings, while Liu Fuenmayor (loss, 3-2) allowed a go-ahead RBI double off the bat of Josh Leslie in the bottom of the eighth to put the Boulders ahead for good.

Caleb Burr went 2-for-3 with a double and was beaned. Thomas Ferroggiaro and AJ Wright each walked twice.

The Titans left the bases loaded in the fifth and had no hits from Fuhrman's three-run double onward.

Despite the loss, the Titans got help on the out-of-town scoreboard, as Down East lost to Tri-City. The magic number for the Titans to clinch a playoff spot has dropped to four.

The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game road trip with the second of a three-game series against the New York Boulders on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Clover Stadium in Pomona, New York.
