Consecutive Series Unbeaten Streak Ends, Titans Fall in Finale

Crestwood, IL - After ten straight unbeaten series, the Ottawa Titans (46-34) dropped the rubber match to the Windy City ThunderBolts (41-40) by a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night.

Lefty Evan Grills (ND, 5-0) took the mound for the Titans and threw two scoreless innings before a power outage caused a delay, ending his night. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out one.

The Titans got on the board first. Myles Smith and AJ Wright each singled to put runners on the corners. Hunter Stokely drove in Smith on a groundout to put the Titans ahead 1-0 in the fourth.

The lead didn't last long. Victor Cerny hit a Little League two-run home run with a triple and an error to put the Bolts ahead 2-1, and Liam McArthur drove in another to extend the lead to 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning.

The Titans got one back in the top of the sixth as Stokely drove in Smith with an RBI single to make it 3-2.

Ted Stuka got the ball for the bottom of the sixth and worked himself into a two-out, bases-loaded jam. Justin Fogel took a free pass to extend the lead to 4-2, but Stuka escaped the inning, allowing just one run.

In the seventh, Brett Garcia found the bases loaded with two outs, but escaped unscathed, striking out two.

The Titans stranded runners on the corners in the eighth, heading to the bottom half still down 4-2.

The ThunderBolts put up one more insurance run in the eighth to make it 5-2 heading into the ninth.

Blaise Wilcenski (win, 1-1) picked up the win, going two innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk. Jack Kalisky (loss, 0-3) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk.

Carter Delaney (save, 8-0) picked up his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth. 

Hunter Stokely went 1-for-4, picking up the Titans' only two RBI. AJ Wright went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Jackie Urbaez picked up a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4, and Myles Smith also went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.

The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game Midwest Conference road trip with the opener of a three-game series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at Arsenal BG Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois. The Titans return home on August 18^th for a six-game series against the Mississippi Mud Monsters.
