Titans Even Series with ThunderBolts

Crestwood, IL - The Ottawa Titans (46-33) snapped a two-game slide with a bounce-back 7-2 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts (40-40) on Wednesday night.

Making his fifth start of the season, right-hander Kevin Miranda (ND, 3-2) returned from the National Team Inactive List and gave the visitors four scoreless innings. The Panamanian yielded two hits, walked two, hit one, and fanned two.

In a tight affair in the early going, the Titans broke the ice in the middle game with a two-out RBI single to centre from Mitsuki Fukuda.

Looking for insurance, the Titans put two on with one out in the top of the sixth, chasing left-hander Ramon Rodriguez (loss, 2-2) from the game. Former Ottawa Titan Zach Cameron walked the pinch hitter Austin Gurney to load up the bases. Cameron then uncorked a wild pitch to plate a Jake Steels hit by pitch before Taylor Wright brought in one with a sac fly to deep right, making it 3-0.

In the seventh, the Titans once again loaded the bases against left-hander Matt Bohnert. In a marathon at-bat and in tough left-on-left, Hunter Stokely blew it open with a three-run double to left-centre, putting the Titans ahead 6-0.

Michael Vilchez (win, 4-1) shined on the mound with four innings of two-run ball to let the lead stand up. Vilchez allowed a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth on three hits, seeing the ThunderBolts break the shutout bid.

For good measure, Stokely opened the top of the ninth against right-hander Connor Blence with a solo homer to centre, making it 7-2. With a four-RBI night, Stokely's fourth homer of the year was his first in 16 games.

Liu Fuenmayor tossed a scoreless ninth to put the Titans back in the win column.

Hunter Stokely led the offence by going 3-for-4 with a walk, double, homer, and four RBI. Nathaniël Lai went 2-for-2, while Thomas Ferroggiaro returned to the lineup with a multi-hit effort. AJ Wright drew two walks, and Mitsuki Fukuda drove in one with a base knock and also drew a free pass.

The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game Midwest Conference road trip with the finale of a three-game series against the Windy City ThunderBolts on Thursday night at 7:35 p.m. ET at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, Illinois. The Titans visit the Gateway Grizzlies over the weekend for a three-game set. The Club returns home on August 18^th for a six-game series against the Mississippi Mud Monsters.
