Ottawa, ON - A three-run single in the bottom of the ninth wasn't enough as the Ottawa Titans (49-37) had their three-game win streak come to an end in a 7-6 loss to the Mississippi Mud Monsters (34-52) on Thursday night.

For the first time this series, the Mud Monsters struck first. Amani Larry put the visitors ahead with an RBI single in the top of the first.

Taylor Wright got the scoring started for the Titans with an RBI double in the fourth, putting the Titans ahead 2-1. Myles Smith extended the lead with an RBI single, making it 3-1.

The Mud Monsters got a run back in the fifth to make it 3-2.

Ky Hampton (ND, 2-4) looked solid going five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on just one hit, walking three, and striking out one. Hampton left in line for his first home win.

Michael Vilchez held the Titans' lead in the sixth, but a two-out rally in the seventh gave the Mud Monsters the lead for good.

Liu Fuenmayor (loss, 3-1) looked dominant early, striking out the first two batters he faced, but a string of five hits let in four runs and gave the Mud Monsters a 6-3 lead.

Down 7-3 in the eighth, the Titans loaded the bases but came up short, leaving three runners on.

Jack Kalisky went three up, three down in the top of the ninth. The Titans again loaded the bases in the home half, and Taylor Wright came up big, splitting two outfielders with a bloop single to left-centre that scored all three runners to make it a one-run game.

The Titans ultimately fell short 7-6, dropping the middle match of the six-game series.

Brian Williams (win, 3-8) picked up the win going six strong frames. He allowed three runs on six hits, walking two, while striking out seven.

Connor Langrell (save, 3) allowed three runs and walked four, but got the job done by going one and two-thirds innings.

Taylor Wright was nearly the entire Titans offence, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, five RBI and two stolen bases.

Jackie Urbaez went 1-for-3 with two walks and scored twice. Myles Smith went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, and Jake Steels went 2-for-4.

Despite the loss, the Titans got some help on the out-of-town scoreboard with Québec beating Sussex County, shrinking the magic number to clinch a playoff spot to seven.

The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game series with game four against the Mississippi Mud Monsters on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium. Tomorrow is the Jamaica Destination Dig with post-game fireworks. All the action can be heard on the Ottawa Titans Radio Network and 94.5 Unique FM, and live-streamed on Frontier League TV powered by HomeTeam Network.
