Nuñez Shines in Debut, Titans Defeat Mud Monsters

Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans (50-37) picked up their 50th win of the season, defeating the Mississippi Mud Monsters (34-53) by an 11-3 final on Friday night.


The Titans got things rolling early, scoring two in the first. In his first plate appearance in the Capital, Rainer Nuñez dumped a single into right field, scoring two and getting all 4,013 fans on their feet.


In the third, the Titans kept things going, plating four to extend the lead to 6-0. Jake Steeles crushed a solo shot, sending it 420 feet, and Nuñez picked up another RBI single, scoring Myles Smith. Hunter Stokely lifted a sacrifice fly, and another run scored on a wild pitch.


Eric Pardinho (win, 6-4) made his first appearance since returning from the injured list and looked sharp. He allowed just one run on a solo shot in the fourth, going five innings, allowing four hits, walking one, and striking out four.


The Titans kept the bats hot, plating another two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.


Taylor Wright reached on a fielder's choice, and Stokely lifted his eighth long ball of the season, extending the lead to 8-1.


With the bases loaded in the sixth, AJ Wright worked a walk to extend the lead. Nuñez picked up his fourth RBI of the day on a groundout, and Taylor Wright reached on an infield single to make it 11-1.


Kevin Miranda (save, 1) picked up his first save since 2024, going four quality innings out of the bullpen. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out three.


Julian Minaya (loss, 0-1) took the loss, tossing five innings and allowing eight runs on eight hits, walking two, hitting one, and striking out five.


Rainer Nuñez ended his debut going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Jake Steeles went 2-for-4 with a solo shot while scoring three times. AJ Wright went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a free pass, and Hunter Stokely went 2-for-3 with a two-run bomb.


With the win and a Sussex County loss to Québec, the Titans' magic number to clinch a playoff spot is five.


In four of five seasons in the existence of the Titans' franchise, they have eclipsed the 50-win plateau. It's also the fastest to 50 wins in franchise history.


The Ottawa Titans continue a six-game series with game five against the Mississippi Mud Monsters on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium.
