Quick Start, Late Heroics from Burr Send Titans Past Rox

Ottawa, ON - A massive five-run first inning powered the Ottawa Titans (39-30) to a 6-5 victory over the Brockton Rox (32-38) on Friday night, striking first in the opener of the series.

Eric Pardhino (win, 5-4) got the start for the Titans, going three up, three down to start the game.

The Titans got on the board first with a five-run first against left-hander Eli Majick (loss, 2-5), getting all 3,922 fans loud and on their feet. Taylor Wright singled, while Thomas Ferroggiaro and Jackie Urbaez each got plunked to load the bases.

AJ Wright lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Myles Smith doubled to bring in a run, Caleb Burr got beaned, and Hunter Stokely brought in another two with a double to centre. Michael Fuhrman capped off the five-run first with an RBI single.

The Rox got one back in the second as Evan Sleight sent a solo shot to right-centre to make it 5-1, and a two-run third brought the visitors within two.

Scott Seeker tied the game up in the sixth, sending a two-run bomb deep to right to level the series opener at five.

The Titans took the lead back for good in the bottom of the sixth inning as Caleb Burr sent his first-ever professional home run to left to make it 6-5.

Pardinho went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, walking one, and striking out five. In his second-straight win, the Brazilian allowed three homers in a game for the second time this season.

The Titans bullpen held down the fort, allowing just two hits and two walks through three innings of work. Liu Fuenmayor stranded runners on the corners in the seventh inning before a clean eighth, as Brett Garcia (save, 12) wrapped it up with a scoreless ninth, closing out the night.

Jackie Urbaez went 1-for-2 with a walk and his 31st hit-by-pitch of the year. Myles Smith went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run, and an RBI. Hunter Stokely went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Caleb Burr went 1-for-3 with two runs, plus his first professional home run.

The Titans closed out July with a 15-9 record, their best month yet this season.
