Early deficit deflates Titans in loss to Boulders

Ottawa, ON – The early innings of the rubber match proved to set the tone on Wednesday, as the Ottawa Titans (44-31) fell 11-4 to the New York Boulders.

Zac Westcott (loss, 8-3) took to the mound in the series finale and fell behind by five in a blink of an eye. Francisco Del Valle laced a leadoff solo shot to right, putting the Boulders in front. Later, an E5 made it 2-0 as the Boulders continued the pressure in the opening half inning. With two-on and nobody out, Chris Kwitzer belted a three-run homer to right to cap off the scoring in the first.

Del Valle smashed his second homer of the game to kick off the second, before another five spot in the third had the Boulders in cruise control. Austin Dennis recorded an RBI double off Westcott in the top of the third, which was followed by a Gabriel Garcia three-run shot onto Coventry Road.

A pair of RBI singles off Alex Mack (win, 7-3) from Jackie Urbaez and Rodrigo Orozco put the Titans on the board in the bottom half of the third.

Westcott would return to the mound to retire the final seven batters he faced, before leaving in line for the loss. The righty went five complete, allowing 11 runs, six earned, on 11 hits, walking one, and striking out five in his 16th start of the season.

A pair of singles in the fifth set up an RBI ground out from Mitsuki Fukuda, making it 11-3.

Brendon Dadson led off the sixth inning with a solo shot to straightaway centre, plating the game’s final run. The Bowmanville native’s sixth homer of the season was Dadson’s first long ball since June 25, which also happened to come against the Boulders’ righty.

Matt Terrones and Kenny Williams tossed four shutout innings out of the bullpen, striking out a combined four.

In the loss, the Titans received multi-hit performances from Aj Wright, Jackie Urbaez, Jason Dicochea, and Brendon Dadson.

The Ottawa Titans begin a three-game series with the division-leading Quebec Capitales tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium. All the action can be heard locally on CKDJ 107.9, while also being available worldwide at CKDJ.net.
