Smith Shines, Titans Edge Rox

Brockton, MA - Down by as much as five runs, the Ottawa Titans (42-31) mounted a comeback to defeat the Brockton Rox (33-41) by a narrow 9-8 final on Wednesday afternoon.
Making his team-leading 16th start of the season, Kaleb Hill (ND, 4-4) was in a battle all day long, going a season-low two and a third. The Rox opened the scoring on a Nick Marola second-inning RBI single before exploding for six in the bottom of the third.
For a brief time, the Titans held the lead in the early stages of the game. Loading the bases with two out in the top of the third, Myles Smith drove in a pair with a two-run single up the middle to put the visitors up 2-1.
Things unravelled for Hill in the third, as 11 Rox came to the plate in the big inning. Evan Gioardano tied it with a solo homer to left before an RBI single from Marola, and a two-run double from Keagan Calero blew it open. With the bases loaded, Michael Vilchez allowed two inherited runners to score as the Titans went behind 7-2.
Hill tossed a season-low two and a third innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, walking three, and striking out one.
Jake Steels got the comeback started with a two-run single off Tyler Thornton (ND, 3-5) in the top of the fourth.
Smith brought the Titans within one with a two-run homer to right in the top of the fifth, as the Titans found themselves down 7-6. Later, with one on, Thomas Ferroggiaro reached on a fielder's choice. An airmailed throw as the Rox attempted to turn a double play ended up in the outfield, leading to Caleb Burr scoring all the way from first to tie the game.
Tied through seven, the Titans got to reliever Pierce Williams (loss, 1-4) in the eighth as Michael Fuhrman came off the bench and doubled to start the inning. As the Rox went to closer Brendan O'Donnell, Jackie Urbaez broke the tie with an RBI single to centre. Later in the eighth, Smith brought home his fifth run of the day with a single.
After three innings from Vilchez and two and two-thirds combined clean frames from Ted Stuka and Liu Fuenmayor (win, 3-0) - Brett Garcia (save, 13) got into some trouble in the ninth.
The Rox peppered the Titans' all-star closer for a run on three hits to make it a one-run game. With two in scoring position, Garcia got Austin White to strike out to end the threat and preserve the win.
Myles Smith led the charge by going 4-for-5 with a homer, driving in five. Jake Steels and Hunter Stokely each posted two hits. AJ Wright singled and walked twice.
With the win, the Titans are now unbeaten in nine consecutive series and earn their 250th win in franchise history.
