OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE

Ottawa, ON - Threatening late, the Ottawa Titans (8-15) left the bases loaded in the eighth, and two on in the ninth in a 7-6 loss to the Brockton Rox (9-13) on Thursday.

The offence stayed hot, capitalizing on a leadoff Jackie Urbaez double off left-hander Joe Kemlage (win, 1-1) in the bottom of the first. The extra-base hit saw Urbaez reach for the 23rd game in a row. After a groundout moved Urbaez to third, AJ Wright knocked in the game's first run with an infield single.

Veteran southpaw Evan Grills (loss, 0-2) had to pitch around traffic all game long, but managed to keep the Titans ahead by a run through the first three innings.

The Rox broke through in the fourth, loading the bases with nobody out. Grills would issue his second-straight walk, tying the score at one. However, that would be all that he'd allow in the jam - as the lefty fanned the next two, then got out of it with a fielder's choice.

Following an Evan Giordano solo homer in the fifth, the Titans took the lead right back with a two-run single up the middle from Victor Cerny to go up 3-2.

One out away from a quality start, Grills allowed two runs in the top of the sixth - as the Rox took the lead back for good. In all, the left-hander allowed four runs on ten hits, walking three, and striking out five over five and two-thirds.

Two hits to open the seventh off Jake Dixon came around to score before an inherited runner came across against Billy Duby in the eighth. The Rox led by as many as four late in the contest.

RBI hits from Jeremy Piatkiewicz and Michael Mugan in the bottom of the eighth made things interesting, as Brendan Bell retired newcomer Kaiden Cardoso on strikes with the bases loaded to end the threat.

Down to their final out and with two on, an E4 on a groundball from Aaron Casillas found its way past Brett Young to make it a one-run game. With runners on the corners, right-hander Trevor Anibal (save, 1) got Jackie Urbaez to drill a liner to second to end the game. In all, the Titans stranded 13 on base in the rubber game.

Jackie Urbaez, Victor Cerny, Jeremy Piatkiewicz, Sam Abbott, and Kaiden Cardoso all had multi-hit games in the defeat.

The Ottawa Titans open a three-game series against the Sussex County Miners on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium. Fans will be entertained with post-game fireworks, presented by Archangel Fireworks. On Saturday, the club will host Pride Night, presented by KiSS 105.3. Sunday is Cappy's Birthday, and post-game kids under 12 run the bases, sponsored by Lois N Frima's Ice Cream. OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE Brockton, MA - Held scoreless through eight, the Ottawa Titans (29-30) managed to push two across in the ninth in a 4-2 loss to the Brockton Rox (23-36) on Sunday. Rookie left-hander Pierce Williams (win, 1-0) was spectacular for the Rox, helping the club snap its 12-game losing streak. The Titans had no hits through three and just five baserunners total through seven. The lefty allowed just two hits, walked one, and fanned two for his first professional win. Dealing on his end, left-hander Mac Lardner (loss, 3-3) kept his team in the game by holding the Rox's offence quiet through five. Things fell off in the sixth, as the home side loaded the bags with one out. Derek Bender broke the scoreless tie by getting hit by a pitch to plate Austin White. Next, Hemmanuel Rosario drove one in with a single while Jamey Smart brought home another with a sacrifice fly. Inheriting the bases loaded and two away, Brandon Marklund walked Nick Marola to bring home a fourth run of the frame, making it 4-0. In total, the Rox got the four runs on four hits and sent ten to the dish to take their first lead of the series. Lardner's afternoon closed after five and two-thirds, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking one, hitting three, and striking out two. The southpaw also set a new team-high with a 14.1 scoreless inning streak, seeing it close in the sixth inning. Luke Powell kept it close by striking out two over two scoreless innings of relief to finish the day on the mound for the visitors. In the ninth, the Titans drew back-to-back one-out walks against Brendan Bell. It marked the first time in the game that the Titans' offence put a runner in scoring position. Nolan McCarthy extended his on-base streak to 17 games in a row with an RBI knock to get the Titans on the board, before Victor Cerny dropped in an RBI hit to right to make it 4-2. With the tying run on base, Bell escaped trouble by getting Jake Sanford to pop up and Kishon Frett to go down swinging to end the game. After a day off on Monday, the Ottawa Titans head home for a doubleheader as part of a four-game series against the Down East Bird Dawgs on Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium. Both games are scheduled for seven innings. After the mid-week set with the expansion Bird Dawgs, the Evansville Otters make their first appearance in Ottawa since the 2022 season over the weekend.
