Titans sweep Jackals, win fifth straight

Little Falls, NJ – The Ottawa Titans (23-7) used a four-run fourth inning to put away the New Jersey Jackals with a 7-4 victory on Sunday afternoon, sweeping the series.

The Titans got the scoring started with Rodrigo Orozco blasting a Joan Gregorio (loss, 0-1) offering over the wall in right, giving the visitors the early advantage. Orozco’s third homer of the season was the Panamanian’s second big fly of the week.

In the bottom half, the Jackals put two aboard for Trevor Abrams, who bounced a grounder past shortstop Andrew Martinez into left, plating Jason Agresti to tie the game.

Tyler Jandron (win, 4-1) settled in and got the win, going seven strong on Father’s Day, allowing the one run (unearned), four hits, walking three, and striking out four in the victory. Jandron bounced back after suffering his first loss of the campaign earlier in the week, where he pitched a season-low four innings.

Following a leadoff double by Orozco, Jason Dicochea drew a one-out walk for Andrew Martinez in the fourth. The shortstop drilled a double off the wall in right, plating a pair to put the Titans back in front.

All in all, the Titans racked up four doubles in the inning as Jackie Urbaez and AJ Wright tallied two baggers, fueling the Titans to a 6-1 lead.

Gavin Sonnier came out of the bullpen and allowed a lead-off double to Justin Wylie in the eighth, who later came around to score on a Josh Rehwaldt single.

Jake Sanford restored the five-run lead with an RBI single in the ninth, scoring Jacob Talamante. Sanford finished the afternoon going 2-for-four with a pair of runs batted in.

The Jackals made things interesting in the ninth, plating a pair off Kevin Escorcia, as Wylie and Agresti drove in runs to make it a three-run game. With two on and two out, Escoria got Rehwaldt swinging to clinch the series sweep.

With the win, the Titans have extended their winning streak to five games and have now won 14 of their last 15. The sweep marks the club’s second three-game sweep of the season and now sit alone in first place in the East Division.

The Ottawa Titans return home on Tuesday to open a three-game series against the Sussex County Miners at 6:30 p.m. from Ottawa Stadium.
