Pomona, NY - The Ottawa Titans (21-25) fell 2-1 in an 8-inning rain-shortened series opener to the New York Boulders (26-18) on Monday evening.

Jamey Smart got the Titans on the board with a double to right-centre, scoring a Jason Dicochea one-out single.

Damon Casetta-Stubbs (loss, 2-3), got out of trouble in the first and was able to throw up a pair of zeros over the first two innings to keep his side in front.

Following a two-out single from Gabriel Garcia, Tucker Nathans put the Boulders in front for good with an opposite-field two-run blast. Nathans' eighth homer of the year put the Boulders ahead 2-1.

The Titans put themselves in a good position to strike in the middle innings but failed to push across a run against Chris Cepeda (ND, 0-1) and Aaron Dona (win, 4-1) throughout the rest of the contest.

AJ Wright led off the fourth with a double but was stranded aboard as Dona fanned a pair to get out of the inning. Then in the fifth, the Titans put a pair in scoring position against Dona with a Jamey Smart double, but the righty struck out Sicnarf Loopstok and got Taylor Wright to fly out to centre to end the inning.

Despite another quality start, Casetta-Stubbs was tagged with the loss after six innings of two-run ball allowing five hits and striking out four.

The Titans went to the bullpen in the seventh for rookie right-hander Andrew Roach, who struck out two in his first professional appearance. Roach was signed earlier in the day after being a member of Oral Roberts' run to the College World Series last month.

In the eighth, the rain intensified, leading to the tarp being rolled onto the field after just one pitch. Following a delay of nearly two hours, the game was called.

Jamey Smart went 2-for-2 with two doubles, an RBI, and a walk. Jackie Urbaez was also able to extend his hitting streak to eight in a row by going 1-for-4.

The Ottawa Titans continue their three-game set against the New York Boulders on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm at Clover Stadium in Pomona, New York. All the action can be heard on CKDJ 107.9 and 94,5 UNIK FM and live-streamed on Flo Baseball.
