Stokely Drives in Three, Titans Beat Otters in Front of Record Crowd

Ottawa, ON - Returning home, the Ottawa Titans kept things rolling in Game Three, grinding out an 8-6 win over the Evansville Otters on Friday night to take a 2-1 lead in the Frontier League Championship Series. The City of Ottawa showed up, setting a new MLB Partner League Playoff record with 10,303 fans in attendance.

Evan Grills (win, 2-0) found himself in a jam in the second. A single from Logan Brown and a double from LG Castillo put both into scoring position with no outs. Sam Linscott reached on an error, scoring one, while a failed pickoff at first later in the inning led to another run to make it 2-0 for the Otters.

The Titans got these runs back and more in the bottom of the second against right-hander Anthony Tomczak (loss, 0-1). AJ Wright and Taylor Wright each took a free pass to open the inning. Hunter Stokely got the party started with a line drive to right field to get the home side on the board.

A walk loaded the bases later on, and Mitsuki Fukuda took a scary one off the helmet. A run scored on the hit-by-pitch to tie it. Jake Steels knocked one in on a fielder's choice to take a 3-2 lead.

The Otters took back the lead in the third, bringing in two to make it 4-3, but the Titans stayed in it, putting up a four-run third.

Taylor Wright drove one in on an RBI single to tie it at four. Stokely doubled to give the Titans the lead for good, and Michael Fuhrman got the crowd on their feet, smacking a two-run triple to make it 7-4.

The Otters made it a two-run game in the fifth, but Stokely stayed hot, knocking in his third run of the day with a single to make it 8-5 in the bottom of the frame.

Grills allowed one more in the sixth before his day ended. He tossed five and a third, allowing six runs (four earned) on eleven hits, while striking out six. Grills left in line for the victory.

The Titans bullpen allowed just two hits through three and two-thirds innings of work. Ted Stuka came in with a runner on and stopped the bleeding by getting the final two outs in the sixth.

Brett Garcia (save, 3) was lights out, going a season-high three innings. He allowed just one hit, walked two, while striking out a massive seven batters.

Michael Fuhrman went 1-for-3 with a two-run triple; Taylor Wright went 2-for-3 with an RBI, three runs, and two stolen bases. Hunter Stokely had himself a night, going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in.

With the win, the Titans are now one win away from their first title in franchise history.
